Next month the biggest sporting event in the world will kick off in South Africa, and it just so happens that Powderfinger will be in the country at exactly the same time. A coincidence? Not really. The band will certainly be cheering on the Socceroos, but they have found the time for a one-off show in Cape Town!

In further international news, Powderfinger are thrilled to be heading to the UK and Ireland this week for their postponed tour dates. Barring any further volcanic eruptions, we’ll be live in Dublin on 31st May before hitting Blighty. We’re looking forward to seeing all your smiling faces there. Let’s hope the warm weather continues!

FINAL SHOWS IN SYDNEY, PERTH & HOBART ALSO SOLD OUT!
It has certainly been an overwhelming ride for Powderfinger this morning with a further five shows (Brisbane x 2, Hobart, Sydney and Perth) on the Sunsets Farewell tour selling out.
Today’s sold out shows take the total number of sell outs to 22 across 34 shows with over 250,000 tickets now sold to Powderfinger’s final Australian concerts.
The final ever show at Brisbane’s Riverstage sold out within 60 seconds of going on sale this morning. A further show on Friday, 12 November sold out within 20 minutes with a final concert now on sale for Wednesday, 10 November, 2010. Tickets to this show are still available from Ticketmaster but are selling fast.
The last ever show in Sydney at Acer Arena also went on sale at 9.00am this morning selling out by lunchtime and the additional Perth show on Wednesday, 22 September sold out within two hours of going on sale.
Fans trying to get tickets to the final Melbourne show at Sidney Myer Music Bowl should hurry - 85% of tickets to the show have been sold!
In Adelaide, the last ever show taking place on Saturday, 30 October, is already 75% sold and any South Australian fans should get in quick to avoid disappointment.
Darren Middleton from Powderfinger said "We're blown away with the sales for this, our last tour, and today’s news certainly catches us by surprise. As usual though, our favourite city has caused us conference call after conference call, with the conversation mostly revolving around 'You're kidding! Sold out already? That's nuts!'. Brisbane, and Australia, we're going to miss the hell out of you".

Powderfinger are pleased to announce that in addition to the fourteen shows which sold out last Friday, three further Queensland shows – Caloundra, Cairns and Toowoomba – have now also sold out.
This brings the total number of sold out shows on the Sunsets Farewell tour to seventeen, with over 175,000 tickets sold nationally.
The response to the tour so far as been overwhelming and band and promoters have been inundated with requests for additional shows and tickets and they are currently looking into options to add further dates to the tour.
It is anticipated that further announcements will be made later this week.

Here's the clip we've all been waiting for, the one that's sure to get Hollywood all a flutter! Powderfinger flex their comedic acting muscles in the new film clip for "Sail The Wildest Stretch".

UK & IRELAND TOUR POSTPONED
It's with great disappointment that we have to announce the postponement of our UK and Ireland tour, due to start tomorrow in Dublin. Unfortunately the band are still stuck in Brisbane due to the volcano-caused havoc the world is currently in. With no expected flight date forthcoming, we had no option but to postpone.
On the upside, Powderfinger will still make the trek over for what will be their last ever Northern Hemisphere tour. ALL TICKETS PURCHASED FOR THE APRIL TOUR WILL BE VALID FOR THE NEW DATES, AND PLEASE NOTE ALL VENUES REMAIN THE SAME.

'SAIL THE WILDEST STRETCH' TO BE THE THIRD SINGLE FROM "GOLDEN RULE"
We're excited to announce that 'Sail The Wildest Stretch' is the third single from "Golden Rule", and we have a new mix of the single at radio now, mixed by Michael Brauer (Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, Regina Spektor). Click here to listen to it on our Myspace page. The video will be available for your viewing pleasure next Friday 23rd April. As Bernard revealed recently, "it's a comedy". We can tell you that the clip sees our five heros swill rum and wrestle with a giant shark. Just another day in the office really.
The new mix of 'Sail The Wildest Stretch' will be available as a bundle with the video at iTunes from Friday 30 April.

As we alluded to yesterday, we have some massive news for you. At a press conference in Sydney this morning all five band members announced their most extensive Australian tour ever! In what has been an agonising decision for the band, they have also announced that the “Sunsets” tour around the nation will be their last ever. Powderfinger will disband as a touring and recording band following this tour.
In a statement read out by Bernard, the band said that “With the completion of our last album, Golden Rule, we feel that we have said all that we want to say as a musical group. We firmly believe that it is our most complete and satisfying album and can't think of a better way to farewell our fans than with music that we all believe in and also with, hopefully, our best tour to date.”
Dry your eyes fans, we still have a massive amount of excitement in store for you. The “Sunsets” tour will include shows in 21 different cities across every state and territory and be stretched over a seven week period from early September through to late October. Tickets will go on sale 9am Friday 30th April. Stay tuned for fanclub pre-sale information.
To add to the fun, the band will be supported by JET for all shows except the first three. The dates in Newcastle, Gold Coast and Brisbane will be supported by THE VINES.
The band also announced today that they will be partnering with Yalari on the tour. Yalari sponsors Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from regional, rural and remote communities to attend boarding schools all around the country, so they can receive a first class education through full boarding scholarships at the highest achieving secondary schools. Yalari is an organisation that looks to the improvement of the standard of living of Aboriginal people all around Australia by lifting education standards and creating inspirational incentives to children that would not ordinarily be afforded these types of opportunities. Powderfinger's single "All Of The Dreamers" came in at #49 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2009. Thanks to everyone that voted!
The band were performing at the Melbourne Big Day Out when the winner was announced. The band announced the results to the crowd before performing a cover of the winning song, Mumford & Sons' "Little Lion Man".

Powderfinger's latest album "Golden Rule" took out the prize for Best Album at last night's Rolling Stone Awards in Sydney.
In October 2009 Powderfinger headed to Chiang Mai, Thailand, to film a clip for their single "Burn Your Name". The filming took place during the spectacular "Yi Peng" Festival (or Festival Of Lights). The band made the most of the opportunity to let off fireworks...with some near misses! We have a brand new clip for "Burn Your Name"!
The video was filmed in Chiang Mai, Thailand, at the Yi Peng festival (or Festival of Lights). People light a lantern that is kind of like a personal hot air balloon and set it adrift, sending all their troubles away. It was an amazing experience to see your own lantern float away with thousands of others, and you could follow it until it looked like a star.
