EXTRA TICKETS RELEASED TO POWDERFINGER'S FINAL 3 SHOWS IN BRISBANE

Firstly on behalf of the band I'd like to say a huge thank you to the wonderful crowds that have greeted us so far in Newcastle, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Tamworth. The band can honestly say that the crowds have been some of the most enthusiastic and loud audiences they've ever played too. It goes without saying they're also the most charming and good looking.

But we digress! The real reason we're getting in touch is to let you know that the kind folks at Liquor Licensing QLD and Brisbane City Council have allowed us to increase the capacity for our remaining three Brisbane Riverstage shows! So if you've missed out on tickets, you'll have your chance to snap some up at 9am this Monday 13th September.

Well People, the show is on the road! We had a blast in Newcastle and are very excited for our QLD shows this weekend.

The set is ready, rehearsals are done, and Darren's vest collection is safely packed. The 'Sunsets' Tour is FINALLY here! We're thrilled to be taking to the stage in Newcastle tonight and finally getting this show on the road.

We've got 33 shows to play before we get there, however we can now reveal how you can get your hands on a recording of the very final Powderfinger show. The band's FINAL EVER show in Brisbane on 13 November is going to be recorded exclusively for iTunes and is available to pre-order now HERE.

Powderfinger are very pleased to announce that Abbey Rd Studios (yep, THAT Abbey Rd that The Beatles recorded at!) are going to be going on tour with the band and recording the shows on the 'Sunsets' Farewell Tour. A CD recording of each show will be available for sale at each venue directly after the show so you can relive the good times over and over! You'll also be able to buy a digital download or CD of your show from the Powderfinger website for a limited time after each show.

EXTRA TICKETS RELEASED FOR PERTH + ADELAIDE & PERTH SUPPORTS ANNOUNCED!

Good news West Coast!

The kind folks at Perth Council have approved an increase to the capacity of Powderfinger's shows at the Supreme Court Gardens for the band's previously sold out 22, 23 and 24 September shows. Yep, get excited - this means we're able to release extra tickets to all three gigs!

Tickets will go on sale at 9am Perth time on Friday 30 July. Tickets are limited, so you will need to be ready to buy at 9am.

In more Westie good news, we've confirmed that our old mate Andrew Morris (in solo mode) will be joining Powderfinger and Jet as the opening support for all three Perth shows.


Adelaide: those of you heading to the final ever Adelaide show on October 30 will also get to share in the delight that is Andrew Morris when he opens for Powderfinger and Jet.

As you all know, tickets to most of Powderfinger's final 'Sunsets' Farewell Tour shows sold out in milliseconds. The good news is that our production folk have been hard at work on the layout for each venue, while Ms Fanclub has been chopping our guest list numbers. This means that we're able to release a handful of production and guest list holds for the below shows, and we want to offer them to you!


Tickets to these extra shows are ON SALE NOW! Please keep in mind we're only releasing a limited amount of tickets to each of these shows, so you will need to be pretty quick off the mark in order to snap these babies up.


CHANGE OF HOBART SHOW DATE:
Due to an unforeseen change in ferry running times across Bass Strait we need to move the Hobart performance from Tuesday September 14th to one day earlier on Monday September 13th. This will ensure that all our Tassie fans see the exact production that is touring on the mainland and that all five of our semi- trailers can make it across the waters in time. Band and management are extremely sorry if this has caused any inconvenience, but we have a great show planned and we really want you to see it! Venue details and line up remain unchanged. All tickets for Tuesday remain valid for Monday. Any guests requiring a refund due to not being able to attend on Monday the 13th please contact your point of purchase.

SYDNEY, PERTH & HOBART ALSO SOLD OUT!

It has certainly been an overwhelming ride for Powderfinger this morning with a further five shows (Brisbane x 2, Hobart, Sydney and Perth) on the Sunsets Farewell tour selling out.
  
Today’s sold out shows take the total number of sell outs to 22 across 34 shows with over 250,000 tickets now sold to Powderfinger’s final Australian concerts.
  
The final ever show at Brisbane’s Riverstage sold out within 60 seconds of going on sale this morning.  A further show on Friday, 12 November sold out within 20 minutes with a final concert now on sale for Wednesday 10th November. Tickets to this show are still available from Ticketmaster but are selling fast.
  
The last ever show in Sydney at Acer Arena also went on sale at 9.00am this morning selling out by lunchtime and the additional Perth show on Wednesday, 22 September sold out within two hours of going on sale.
  
Fans trying to get tickets to the final Melbourne show at Sidney Myer Music Bowl should hurry - 85% of tickets to the show have been sold!
  
In Adelaide, the last ever show taking place on Saturday, 30 October, is already 75% sold and any South Australian fans should get in quick to avoid disappointment.  
  
Darren Middleton from Powderfinger said "We're blown away with the sales for this, our last tour, and today’s news certainly catches us by surprise. As usual though, our favourite city has caused us conference call after conference call, with the conversation mostly revolving around 'You're kidding! Sold out already? That's nuts!'.  Brisbane, and Australia, we're going to miss the hell out of you".

CALOUNDRA, CAIRNS & TOOWOOMBA SELL OUT + FURTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS COMING SOON!

Powderfinger are pleased to announce that in addition to the fourteen shows which sold out last Friday, three further Queensland shows – Caloundra, Cairns and Toowoomba – have now also sold out. 

This brings the total number of sold out shows on the Sunsets Farewell tour to seventeen, with over 175,000 tickets sold nationally.

The response to the tour so far as been overwhelming and band and promoters have been inundated with requests for additional shows and tickets and they are currently looking into options to add further dates to the tour.

It is anticipated that further announcements will be made later this week.

NEWCASTLE, GOLD COAST, BRISBANE, WOLLONGONG, MELBOURNE,  ADELAIDE, SYDNEY, PERTH, TOWNSVILLE AND BALLARAT SOLD OUT! 2ND TOWNSVILLE SHOW NOW ADDED.

As you've no doubt realised by now, all shows in the above cities (including 2nd shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth) sold out within minutes this morning. The response has been absolutely overwhelming and we are so thankful to all of you that purchased tickets (and to those of you that tried and were unsuccessful, we salute you). Tickets to all other shows are still available.

We have also added a second Townsville show which is now on sale!

Due to overwhelming demand, second shows have been added in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.  The additional dates are listed in the column on the right.

As we alluded to yesterday, we have some massive news for you. At a press conference in Sydney this morning all five band members announced their most extensive Australian tour ever! In what has been an agonising decision for the band, they have also announced that the “Sunsets” tour around the nation will be their last ever. Powderfinger will disband as a touring and recording band following this tour.


In a statement read out by Bernard, the band said that “With the completion of our last album, Golden Rule, we feel that we have said all that we want to say as a musical group.  We firmly believe that it is our most complete and satisfying album and can't think of a better way to farewell our fans than with music that we all believe in and also with, hopefully, our best tour to date.”
 

Dry your eyes fans, we still have a massive amount of excitement in store for you. The “Sunsets” tour will include shows in 21 different cities across every state and territory and be stretched over a seven week period from early September through to late October. Tickets will go on sale 9am Friday 30th April. Stay tuned for fanclub pre-sale information.


To add to the fun, the band will be supported by JET for all shows except the first three. The dates in Newcastle, Gold Coast and Brisbane will be supported by THE VINES.


The band also announced today that they will be partnering with Yalari on the tour. Yalari sponsors Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from regional, rural and remote communities to attend boarding schools all around the country, so they can receive a first class education through full boarding scholarships at the highest achieving secondary schools. Yalari is an organisation that looks to the improvement of the standard of living of Aboriginal people all around Australia by lifting education standards and creating inspirational incentives to children that would not ordinarily be afforded these types of opportunities.
