Since the last days of Powderfinger, Darren has released 2 more albums and an EP—this time under his own name.
Darren’s first solo release, Translations (2013), showcased the breadth of Darren’s musical chops and opened a lot of eyes and ears along the way. The liner notes read like a ‘who’s who’ of the Australian music industry, with guests including Bernard Fanning, Paul Dempsey, Pete Murray, Clare Bowditch and Nic Cester.
The follow-up, Splinters (2015), sees Darren experimenting with new sounds, instrumentation and darker moods. The end result is an emotive record with a lot of depth. This time ‘round he invited along someone by the name of Missy Higgins. Melodic delight ensues.
And in late 2016, Darren released a new EP called Lightning Halos, breaking new ground by crowdsourcing a global choir for the title track.
Darren has also started a new film and TV scoring company called SONAIRE with his partner. Head to www.sonaire.org for more info.
Darren is still very active on the live circuit and a big supporter of our upcoming young artists.
